Lucy West-Sooby

grew up in the sleepy suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia, where she spent much of her peaceful childhood drawing and writing stories. Recovering from the high school art curriculum, she turned her attention to literary studies at the University of Adelaide. She was delighted to complete a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Hons.) in European Studies, but felt that there was something missing. Hungry to rediscover her passion for fine art, she moved to Sydney in 2012 to study at the legendary Julian Ashton Art School. She spent the next three years in her element, obsessively honing her drawing and painting skills, winning the coveted Brett Whiteley Scholarship there in her final year.

Since completing her studies, Lucy has taken on a diverse range of artistic projects. She has successfully completed commissions and illustration work, taken part in group exhibitions and live art events, and found recognition on the art prize circuit, including the 2015 Manning Art Prize and the 2016 Portia Geach Memorial Award. Lucy is a resident artist at the innovative artist-run studio and gallery Project [504], where she also spent 2015-16 as gallery manager.

Lucy is currently applying her excellent draughtsmanship and imagination to develop her illustration portfolio and take on more ambitious large scale oil paintings.

Lucy is a sought after commission painter and encourages anyone interested in her work to get in touch via her Contact page.
